For a long time now the Manning Rippers Football Club have marketed themselves as a community club and most people associated with the club believe we do more than just talk the talk. We do care for our community and we do want to connect to all of our stakeholders.

On Saturday June 19 the Manning Rippers with the magnificent support of our strategic partner the City of South Perth got to walk the walk when we held our inaugural community day to coincide with the Club’s Indigenous Round.  On the day we had 800-1000 people connected with our junior and senior football teams and local businesses visit the club to enjoy the festivities and the football on display. There were bouncy castles, face painting for the kids and a free sausage sizzle for all our Auskick kids. Another highlight was the Mum’s game held in between our two official games where 14 of our Mums put on the footy gear and embraced Australian Rules Football
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the emotional Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony conducted before our Perth Football League Women’s Team game against Ocean Ridge by Josh McGuire. Members of both teams in the game participated in the ceremony along with players and coaches from our Manning Rippers Colts and Men’s Teams.  In addition to this there were a number of other events on the day that emphasised  the club’s commitment to embrace its indigenous members.

The Women’s Team unveiled a brand-new polo featuring artwork by Marcia McGuire ( a local Noongar artist)  and manufactured by Jatu Clothing PPE , an Indigenous owned family business  ( some of whom are players in our Senior Women’s Team ). A canvas print telling the story of football in the Manning area was also unveiled along with a plaque acknowledging the traditional owners of the land on which the club operates.
It was indeed a great day for all of the club and our committee are already thinking of ways to make sure the event is bigger and better in 2022.

We would like to acknowledge the receipt of a Community Funding Grant from the City of South Perth and thank them for their support of this event. See you next year for Community Day 2022.
